Tatomic is a new action puzzle game for the Apple iPhone. It is sort of like a mix of Tetris, Lumines and Super Puzzle Fighter. The basic idea is to group atoms into atomic chains. Atoms fall 2 at a time and you have to rotate, move and place them using the on-screen touch controls.
The game features 3 modes, Critical Mass, Radioactive Survival and Puzzle Mode.
In Critical Mass, each of the four atom colors has a number next to it. This number signifies how many atoms in a chain it takes before the chain explodes and the atoms are cleared from the board. The numbers change every level. One level the drop rate might be slow but the amount of atoms needed to clear a chain will be really high. In another level the drop rate might be super fast, but very few atoms are needed to clear the chains. The game seems to have a good balance as the levels become progressively harder.
In Radioactive Survival you can make the chains as long as you wish. Occasionally radioactive atoms show up and these trigger chain explosions. The drop rate gets faster as the levels progress.
In Puzzle Mode you simply pick a shape and then try to it by creating a chain of the same shape. There are 20 puzzles to choose from.
The touch controls work really great. There top left and top right corners have arrows blended into the background which move the atoms left and right. The bottom left corner has a down button to drop the atoms and the bottom right a button to rotate them. The controls are very responsive and it is easy to control the atoms even at the fastest levels.
The graphics are really good, this is easily one of the best looking iPhone games. The backgrounds are amazing and change every level. The music is very good too and fits the speed at which the atoms fall.
Overall this is a really great original puzzle game that works very well on the iPhone. The price is not too bad at $4.99 and I highly recommend downloading it.
