While getting my daily Digg fix, I came upon an interesting article. Apparently, British scientists have implanted brain probes that allow monkeys to remotely control robotic arms. Here's the link: Monkey's brain controls robot arm
Quote BBC News:
With the probes inserted into the monkeys' motor cortices, computer software was used to interpret the brain's electrical impulses and translate them into movement through the robotic arm.
Naturally, the most obvious implications are for robotic limbs; war veterans regaining lost mobility, perhaps allowing super human strength.
But as a gamer, let me offer a different take on this discovery. Could mind controlling technology be used in games? Will we one day control our in-game characters with simple thoughts? What would be the implications on our already "a little too laid back" society?
I for one welcome the day when i no longer have to press buttons, wiggle a WiiMote, and point & click.
