Quake 3: Arena THE CORKSCREW MOD v1.00 Mod

The CorkScrew Mod has gone final! If you like instagib, then get The CorkScrew Mod, it'll blow any other instagib mod away! This mod is focused on bringing you the best instagib experience ever, and to accomplish that, I did an almost total reconstruction of the railgun! Totally NEW 3D Railtrail!:
This is the main feature of this instagib mod; the railtrail is now completely 3D with a cool twist which makes it look like a corkscrew, hence the name. I have seen a few mods that claimed to have a totally new railtrail, but these mods only changed a texture (the railcore), so with these mods the railtrail looked very "flat". Well, this railtrail is as 3d as it can get, giving you that rocksolid feel of the gun.

Improved railgun graphics:
I used the railtrail color the way ID wanted to use it (check the prerelease screenshots). That means you can see the railtrail color on your as well as your enemy's railgun! This results in railguns that glow in the dark, making a dark railgun match very cool!

New HUD:
To improve your railgun aiming skills, you'll need to know how well you're railing. This HUD just informs you about your L337 railing skills. Anyway it will make you feel really good once you see that accuracy rating rise and rise! And ofcourse as you have already noticed, the award display is moved to the HUD. If you're that good that you always wonder "how many 'excellents' have i got?" because the 'excellent' icons fill your screen, well, this HUD answers your question with a simple number.


Offhand grapple:
Ofcourse a grapple could come in handy... This grapple is way different than your average Q3 grapple. The grapple physics have been altered to give you a "King of the Jungle" feel, as opposed to the "skilift" feel the original grapple has. Be warned that although you might have a lot of experience with the Q2 grapples, you'll be baffled by the wacky physics this grapple has!

Add powerups:
When you think a map could use an extra powerup, you can easily add it! Using the additem command, you can add anything to the map! For example, to add a Quad Damage at your current position drop down the console and type: additem item_quad. Details are in the readme.txt.

Railgun explosions:
Railgun explosions introduce a new method of jumping: RAILGUN JUMPING! One of the things you normally miss in instagib gameplay is the rocket launcher, but now you can use you old faithfull railgun to do the job. Using the same physics, you can jump using the railgun as you were holding a rocker launcher.


Bouncing slugs:
Your shots can bounce off walls! Perfect for those "I know he's around the corner"-shots. Disabled by default, enabled in the arcade and excessive config.

New railgun sound:
I have heard many complaints about the railgun sound being so "sissy", like you turn on a vacuum cleaner when you pull the trigger. Well, the old rocking Q2 railgun sound is back! I mixed the firing sound of the Q2 baddy Gladiator (you know, sidestep or your toast...) with the reload sound of the Q3 railgun. Beware, as this sound could have a severe impact on your loudspeakers!


Scoring by hits*accuracy:
Scoring by hit*accuracy forces the players to shoot as accurate as they can, because if they don't, they'll end up with a low score no matter if they have the most frags. This mode only works well with human players, as bots have an extremely low accuracy rating (unless they're "nightmare" skilled).

Easy to adjust firerate:
The server can easily adjust the firerate of everybody's railgun, and the players can handicap themselves which also effects the firerate. Such a small option can have a HUGE effect on the gameplay!

Space protection:
You hate the space maps just because you can fall off of them, right? Wrong! With space protection enabled you're just teleported back to a random spawn point whenever you fall into the void or the fog of hell. Ofcourse you can't take your flag with you...

Optional powerups:
The powerups are optional, so you can easily remove them if you want to set up a tournament. The quad damage now gibs anyone close to the point of impact, which gives it an "instant quad rocket" feel. The battlesuit and flight powerups are removed, as they are of no effect in this mod, the flight powerup would make you an easy target...

Spawn protection: Just one of the things missing in the original game... It keeps spawn spot campers from "scoring" cheap frags.

Color options:
The colors of the railcore, railrings, the corkscrew, the explosions and the HUD are for you to choose. This, however, only affects YOUR display! That means, if you set your railtrail color to blue, and you alter the settings so that the railgun explosions are yellow, the other players still see your explosions in blue!

All items are removed:
To help client side (online) performance, all items that have no effect in instagib are removed.
